00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:17.856
<v Jamie>The Weekly Thing, issue 3. Weekly Thing for May 27, twenty seventeen. Published May 27, twenty seventeen. By Jamie Thingelstad. In this issue: 1Password Travel Mode, largest Git repo, JSON Feed, Gary Gygax D and D, Mister Rogers cardigans, Hello Weather iOS, Anker beating Apple.

00:00:18.456 --> 00:00:50.094
<v Jamie>This week there are a couple of changes to the Thing. The first thing is the photo of me. My wife Tammy reads this as well and last week her first comment was about the photo I added. She had some colorful suggestions that I completely agreed with. Going with a more relaxed image from now on. The other addition this week is a new Photog section to highlight a photo from the week. I loved this shot from this week so that inspired me to add this. I’m not sure if I'll be able to consistently have a great shot but I'll try.

00:00:50.594 --> 00:01:14.479
<v Jamie>I’m finding the Weekly Thing a fun project. I've gotten a lot of good and constructive feedback so keep that coming. Subscriber count has slowly grown through private sharing. Please feel free to forward this to others that you think may be interested. I’m probably going to "officially" announce this on my blog and encourage public signups this week or next. There are a lot of links this week…

00:01:15.879 --> 00:01:17.537
<v Jamie>Now, the Blog posts section.

00:01:18.137 --> 00:01:19.433
<v Jamie>Speaker Suggestions.

00:01:19.933 --> 00:01:23.380
<v Jamie>Three repeated anti-patterns that I see when speakers present.

00:01:24.780 --> 00:01:26.501
<v Jamie>That's the end of Blog posts.

00:01:27.901 --> 00:01:29.212
<v Jamie>Now, the Photog section.

00:01:39.261 --> 00:01:54.882
<v Jamie>We were driving around Lake Harriet as the sun was setting this week and the light was catching the trees on the opposite side of the lake making them glow off of the water. The scene caught my eye so much that I stopped the car, got out and took the shot.

00:01:56.282 --> 00:01:57.613
<v Jamie>That's the end of Photog.

00:01:59.013 --> 00:02:00.252

<v Jamie>Link eleven. “Hello Weather” for iOS.

00:05:25.563 --> 00:05:37.482
<v Jamie>I've been using Hello Weather for a while now and I really like it. The information is presented in a very intuitive way and easy to understand. Powerful enough, while not being difficult to use.

00:05:38.381 --> 00:05:42.869

00:07:01.145 --> 00:07:09.318

<v Jamie>Link twenty six. Supreme Court limits locations of patent lawsuits, The Washington Post.

00:10:09.451 --> 00:10:39.540
<v Jamie>This is a good thing. Patent trolls plague the tech industry and this should remove some of the gaming. There is still a long way to go on patent reform though. This line caught my eye though. That has resulted in nearly half of the lawsuits being filed in the Eastern District of Texas in Marshall, where cases move quickly and the court is seen as sympathetic to plaintiffs. That by itself should be enough to validate that we need some significant focus on improving patent litigation.

<v Jamie>Link thirty four. iOS 11: iPad Wishes and Concept Video, MacStories.

00:12:23.306 --> 00:12:54.833
<v Jamie>Quote. Once heralded as a promising sign of Apple's renewed commitment to the iPad, iOS 9 has begun to feel like a one-hit wonder. iOS 9 represented a profound change for Apple's approach to the iPad. After years of stagnation and uninspired imitation of iPhone interface paradigms, iOS 9 allowed the iPad to explore the true potential of its large canvas; for the first time since the original tablet, Apple was creating new iPad-only features rather than adapting them from the iPhone. 00:13:30.378 --> 00:13:36.205
